MEDEC statement on the release of Ontario’s Healthcare Sector Supply Chain Strategy Expert Panel report

Toronto, May 18, 2017 – MEDEC, the national association representing Canada’s Medical Technology Companies, released the following statement from Brian Lewis, President and CEO, in response to the release of Ontario’s Healthcare Sector Supply Chain Strategy Expert Panel report:

“MEDEC welcomes the release of the report from Ontario’s Healthcare Sector Supply Chain Strategy Expert Panel and we thank Kevin Empey and all the members of the panel for their leadership and thorough examination of Ontario’s health care supply chain.

The report recognizes the need to reform the current procurement environment in Ontario and provides strong direction to enable the necessary and beneficial shift to value-based procurement in health care that will improve patient outcomes and contribute to health system sustainability. The Expert Panel’s recommendations offer the potential to build upon the ongoing efforts of the government to increase the adoption of innovation in health care, while growing the medical technology industry in the province.

We have now begun gathering feedback from our members on the report and look forward to engaging with the government as it considers the report’s recommendations.”
