Based on numerous requests, we have decided to combine the two pre-conference workshops.  We will now have one workshop, Linking Government Relations with the Value Message of Health Innovation, led by Dr. Andy Chuck and Mr. Bob Rauscher.  Click HERE for the speaker bios.

The session will begin at 9:00 am and conclude at 5:00 pm.  Click HERE for the agenda.

Goal:  The goal of this workshop is to provide participants an understanding of government relations and the importance of evidencing the value message in health technologies, with the purpose of developing a strategic approach to influence policy and decision-making within a provincial health care system.

Objectives:  By the end of this workshop, the participants will be able to:
1. Explain the role and responsibilities of federal and provincial governments within the Canadian health care system.
2. Understand how elected officials and government officers will be an essential stakeholder in the future of the medical technology sector in Canada.
3. Understand the role of health economic evaluation in health care decision making.
4. Understand the different economic evaluation models that are commonly used within value for money and health technology assessments.
5. Know how evidence will be interpreted as a result of an economic evaluation and understand the policy implications.
6. Shift the discussion from acquisition costs, to a complete health system value perspective.
7. Explain the concept of influence mapping and strategic communications amongst key stakeholders.
8. Pull together a government relation plan set out to meet a specific objective.
9. Demystify and illuminate government relations, allowing you to use this knowledge in your day to day business.

Format:  Through the use of different case studies and real world examples, the participants will be introduced to current and evolving practices of government relations, and understand who to talk to, when, how and why. Participants will benefit most from the workshop if they bring in an organizational opportunity where the concepts discussed and cases used during the day can be applied directly back to this opportunity.
